 VIDEOS

In line with our teaching ethos our videos were made with you, the aspiring artist in mind!

Our videos were carefully planned and designed so that you are able to follow along, easily able to see exactly what we are doing. As we paint we explain what we are doing, and why. As a result you will be watching videos, and hopefully painting along, not only learning to paint the image you see on screen, but also picking up loads of techniques and information that you can apply to your own paintings of other subjects.

Our aim as tutors has always been to encourage and enable you to paint the subjects that inspire you. Our videos are no exception!

ON the way…

We are excited to say that the start of a trial period for this section of our website is getting closer. We are beavering away behind the scenes to prepare video content and other helpful materials to complement them. We just cannot help sharing tips and techniques!

While you wait, here are a few images of the first videos we will be uploading. We hope you find them inspiring. Stay tuned for more updates, there are more to come!

Can’t Wait?

Why not take a look at our Article Library while you are waiting?

There are some lovely step-by-step guides available for you to easily follow along with.

ABOUT OUR VIDEOS

Our videos were made when we were working with Art Tutor, an amazing art tutorial site that is sadly no longer available. We loved working with them, especially because the standard of the videos we produced together was exceptionally high.

The high standard was in part because as qualified and experienced teachers we are both keen to share our expertise in a way that enables the student to enjoy improving their own artwork. We cannot help but share our knowledge! We love to explain not only exactly how we are doing something, but also why we are doing it.

Talking to the audience

An overhead shot

A clear view showing the brushwork

Mixing colour on the palette

The rest of the credit goes to the wonderful folk at Art Tutor!

The studio set up included no less than four cameras:

  • one set directly in front of us so that we could talk directly to you,

  • one set directly above the work so that a crisp, clear image of the painting could be filmed as it developed

  • another camera giving a side view of the work so that you can see the angle at which we are holding the brushes and their movement across the paper

  • a fourth set up over our palettes so that you can watch the paint being mixed.

Their filming and editing was second to none. Where there were points we wished we had remembered to say while painting they added the text to the video afterwards. Files with additional information e.g. reference photographs or materials lists were made available. For this reason we are presenting the videos in their original form.

Although Art Tutor has gone, we still have the videos and, as teachers, find it extremely sad to see them sitting on our study shelf unavailable to aspiring artists! We are looking to make these videos available once more through this site.

We will begin a trial period early in 2025. Please do pop back for a look. Hopefully you will be inspired to sign up!
